Printable Brackets

All of these brackets are in PDF format. The smaller brackets are for letter-sized (8.5″ x 11″), but should adapt easily to A4. The larger brackets are “Super B” (13″ x 19″), but should adapt easily to A3 or tabloid paper. Lower brackets show their structure in the notation explained here, or in the file name (with “v” replacing “|”).

Except for the 48 bracket, I haven’t, so far at least, gone in for formats other than the base formats for the powers of two. All of the supplied upper brackets have seeding lines that can do double duty as guides for the allocation of byes. Thus, if you require a bracket for a 27-team event, you can use a 32-team bracket and enter byes on the seeding lines numbered 28, 29, 30, 31, and 32.

16-team tournaments:

Upper bracket, use for single-elimination or as winners bracket for either of the lowers: 16upper

Lower (losers) bracket, shifted to save a round and improve fairness: 16lowershift (A.B.C.D.|.X)

Lower (losers) bracket, the traditional unshifted version, fairer for seeded tourneys: 16lowerus (A.B.|.C.|.D.X)

32-team tournaments:

Upper bracket, use for single elimination or as winners bracket for any of the lowers: 32upper

Lower (losers) bracket, ED shifted to save a round, fairest design for blind draw tourney: 32lowerde (A.B.|.C.D.E.|.X)

Lower (losers) bracket, early CD shift saves a round, but a little less fair than the ED shift. Use as consolation if there’s no E drop: 32lowercd (A.B.C.D.|.|.E.X). Here’s the consolation version, obtained by simply removing the E and X rounds (which makes it (A.B.C.D.|.|)): 32ABCDvv
